Top End Wrestling takes over where Pro Wrestling Darwin left off as wrestling returns to Australia’s Northern Territory
The story of pro wrestling coming to the Northern Territory in Australia is an interesting one. Australian indie wrestling veteran Brad West and his wife relocated to Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory after Brad’s wife received a job opportunity in the Top End’s largest city. From there, Pro Wrestling Darwin was launched. The company faced an uphill battle that was documented wonderfully in a documentary that we linked to above. The process of obtaining a ring, training wrestlers, finding capable training space in a city that had never seen pro wrestling before and eventually producing the first pro wrestling show and pro wrestling company in Australia’s Northern Territory was one of our absolute favorite stories in the early days of WrestleMap.
Fast forward to 2021. The West family’s time in Darwin has come to an end and sadly, Pro Wrestling Darwin is no more. But the foundation of pro wrestling that was laid in the city continues on, with the launch of Top End Wrestling.
TEW is set to make their debut tomorrow at the City of Palmerston Geekfest, a comic-con type festival being sponsored by the city of Palmerston, the second largest city in the Northern Territory behind Darwin. Since all of Pro Wrestling Darwin’s events were held at the Browns Mart, a theatre in the city of Darwin, and they were the first pro wrestling events ever held in the Northern Territory, that makes Top End Wrestling’s Saturday debut the first pro wrestling event in the history of Palmerston!
To celebrate the big debut, Top End Wrestling is pulling out all the stops. Brad West is back in the Northern Territory for this show, but this time as the event’s host, rather than as it’s promoter. Several independent wrestling stars from around Australia will be making an appearance at the Top End debut show as well. Scheduled to compete are “The Dreamtime Voodoo Witch” Erika Reid, Damian Slater, Gavin McGavin, Leo Pratt, Edith Night, and Dizzy Videl.
The event itself is free and will feature four different sessions of Top End Wrestling action. We’ve attached the schedule below for any readers based in the Palmerston area that are considering attending.
This is the first pro wrestling event in the Northern Territory since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Along with this being Top End Wrestling’s official debut and the first pro wrestling event in the city of Palmerston, the fans on hand should be in for a treat!
