Edingwe’s son Makidiba set to compete for vacant Congolese title in Belgium

Earlier this year, we brought you the news of the big bout between two of the most recognizable wrestlers on the Congolese wrestling scene. Makidiba, the son of Edingwe, squared off with Elephant, one of the few wrestlers to ever beat Edingwe. The coverage and press around that match was great and it felt like one of the best-hyped matches to come out of the DRC in the last couple years. However, the match finish left a lot of confusion and a lot of frustration from fans following a questionable pin fall by Elephant.

Now, Makidiba has returned to Belgium and has another match lined up, but this one has some unique details surrounding it.

The match will be a title match but not for the belt that Makidiba carries that has been recognized as a European Championship. Instead, the Federation Congolaise De Catch, or FCC title will be on the line. The history of the FCC title is pretty interesting. The original FCC belt was sanctioned by a boxing organization in the Democratic Republic of the Congo called LINABOXE. Some years back, Belgian writer, sometimes wrestling promoter and huge fan of Congolese pro wrestling, Thierry Rhodan, was given control of the belt to sanction a title match between Makidiba and Congolese wrestler Mascara Magica. Unfortunately, the plans for that title bout fell through after an injury to Mascara Magica but Thierry Rhodan maintained control of the belt and formed a board to help oversee the title. Congolese wrestler “Force One” Samuel Okito Van-Caster would later be awarded the title belt by the championship committee and would go on to defend the title twice. However, due to inactivity and issues with the title being defended without the board’s approval, Force One was stripped of the belt and the title was declared vacant.

So now a match has been made to determine a new FCC Champion. Edingwe’s son, Makidiba, will take on Ghost for control of the FCC belt. Ghost is a veteran of the Belgian scene who wrestled for the Belgian Catch Wrestling Federation and was trained by the late Salvatore Bellomo. The winner of the match will then be expected to either defend the belt in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or defend it against a Congolese wrestler abroad. Ghost has made his intentions clear that if he wins the bout, he is prepared to do whatever is necessary to defend it.

The match for the vacant belt is set for Saturday, May 14th. The bout will actually take place as part of a boxing card that’s being promoted by Jah Boxing Academy in Brussels. The event is set for the Vander Putten Stadium in Brussels.
