Two Congolese champions set to headline African diaspora event in South Africa
South Africa’s Honour Wrestling Association and Congo Joburg Pro Wrestling are teaming up with some sponsors to present an event that will bring African pro wrestlers from several different nations together. The show, which has been titled Diaspora Pro Wrestling Collusion, is set for Saturday, December 10th at 3:30 PM (15H30) in Johannesburg.
The main event is set to feature Makidiba, or Dieu Edingwe, the son of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s most popular wrestler and inventor of the catch fetiche style of voodoo wrestling, Edingwe, taking on South Africa’s Big Fire. The match is being billed as a champion vs. champion match. Currently, Makidiba holds multiple titles including the Wanderer Kombat Federation (Belgium) Federation de Catch Congolais (Congolese Wrestling Federation) title which will be on the line in the match. Big Fire is currently the South Africa Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.
The event is being billed as “fetish-free,” meaning that the Congolese voodoo wrestling style will not be able to be used by any of the competitors and they will instead need to depend on classic style pro wrestling. It is also believed that Edingwe will be on hand to be in his son Makidiba’s corner.
Along with Big Fire and Makidiba, who are both of Congolese descent, other Congolese pro wrestlers will be in action. These include Gesac Malema, Tetamos le Mystique, and Tatu Mpoyi. Maboko Tomo Roi of Angola will also be in action. Wrestlers from South Africa will also round out the card including Steve Eden, The Jackal, The Ripper and many more.
We’re hopeful that we’ll get an update on at least some of the results coming out of this event. If we’re able to, we’ll also do our best to provide some photo and video footage!
