Hail the new heavyweight champion of Nigeria, Mighty Man

A champion is a person who has surpassed all rivals in a sporting contest or other competition. A champion is also a winner, or someone who's really good at something and that is who De Mighty Man is now. Mighty Man, whose real name is Happy Okolo, has become the Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation (NPWF) national heavyweight champion and title holder. For a while, he has been eyeing the federation’s Heavyweight title and the mission has now been accomplished.

This talented wrestler of appreciable repute was born to the families of Samuel Okolo, who hailed from Emu-Uno in Ndokwa West local government area, and Jany Okolo, from Ator Umuachi in Ndokwa East local government area, both in Delta State, on the 2nd of February 1974 at Emu-Uno in Ndokwa West.

The national heavyweight champion and title holder started his pro wrestling career in 1998 and was trained by Elephando Bassey, the grand wizard of African pro wrestling who also reigned in the late 70s and 80s as the Nigerian national middleweight champion and titleholder.

Champion Mighty Man had Hot Tempo as his first opponent and lists Michael Kovak of Austria as his toughest opponent so far. He had his most memorable match against same Michael Kovak during the BRF Wrestlemania 2011 in Lagos and he has a long list of wrestlers he has defeated over the years. He reigned supreme after defeating Powerful Mike Okoko on the 20th March, 2021 during the Mock Pro Wrestling championship and according to him; it was a warm up match.

‘’I have weathered the storm and also paid my dues as a heavyweight wrestler. Clinching the NPWF national heavyweight championship title now is timely and in the right path to my career. I strong and well set for other local, continental and even international championships. I am the strongest African pro wrestler in the heavyweight category and I can prove that,’’ Mighty Man explained.

De Mighty Man defeated the South African trained The Great Mosendo to become the Nigerian National Pro Wrestling Federation heavyweight champion and title holder during the National Security, Peace and Unity Pro Wrestling Championship held at Area 10, Garki, Abuja on Sunday 13th June, 2021.
